Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

LowC is playing a central role in the delivery of renewable energy solutions on a number of Government-backed BSF projects. The nation-wide BSF programme aims to rebuild or refurbish every secondary school in the UK and incorporates a number of aspirations for long term sustainability.

LowC is working with local authorities and contractors as part of Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) set up to design, build and operate schools throughout the country. By meeting and often exceeding the minimum onsite renewable energy targets, LowC is also enabling the projects to secure DCSF funding by reaching "low carbon school" status, through a number of services such as:
  • Strategy development and planning support throughout design development process
  • Lead role in zero carbon schools implementation
  • New onsite renewable energy concept for schools based on BioCHP (70% onsite renewable energy achieved)
  • Various energy efficiency improvements to minimise building energy consumption
LowC are working with the following local authorities to implement sustainable, long-term solutions:
  • Nottingham City Council
  • Tameside County Council
  • Durham City Council
  • Salford and Wigan
  • Luton City Council
  • Carlisle City Council
Key clients include:
  • Carillion
  • Bovis Lend Lease
  • Laing O'Rourke
